More than 32,000 Websites Face the Heat of An Internet DNS Failure: Global Outrage

On Thursday, the internet witnessed a major DNS failure leading to a global outage. This outrage affected UPS, FedEx, Amazon, Costco, 911 services, and airlines.

Akamai Technologies, on Thursday, released a statement saying, “We are aware of an emerging issue with the Edge DNS service. We are actively investigating the issue. If you have questions or are experiencing impact due to this issue, please contact Akamai Technical Support. In the interest of time, we are providing you the most current information available, which is subject to changes, corrections, and updates.”


About 32,000 websites faced the heat of the system failure and went down around 11 am EST. After 15 minutes, Akamai Technologies released another statement saying that the “service is resuming normal operations.”
